Technicolour

Technicolour is Yorke's 2nd full length musical project. Based in the aesthetics & themes of film, every element of the rollout was designed to match the lyrical content and feel of the music.

Overview

A creative direction document built around film, music and rollout.

Drawing on my favorite films and music as inspiration for the direction of the project, my ultimate aim was to give the project an inherently cinematic quality.

This document compiles and collates the overall creative direction for the project, including references & outputs.

Aesthetic Research

Film references, classic hip-hop imagery, typography and colour grading.

A series of images and albums make up the backbone of Technicolour's reference points. Throughout the project, there was a constant referral to these sources for direction.

The work of Wim Wenders (Paris, Texas), Richard Linklater (The Before Trilogy) & J. C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year), alongside classic hip-hop imagery, were integral to the aesthetics of Technicolour.

These references are most apparent in the video content produced alongside our chosen singles, with the aim of serving as promotional material for social media. Across all 20+ pieces of video content, there was an effort to maintain an aesthetic consistency through intentional typography, colour grading & editing.

Video Content

A more stylised, cinematic take on regular London set pieces.

Technicolour aimed to be cinematic from the beginning, so any form of video content was integral to conveying this. Working with Scottish director Lucas Murray-Reynolds, a series of short pieces were created, intending to illustrate a more stylised, cinematic take on regular London set pieces such as Arnold Circus or Hampstead Heath.

At present these videos have been collectively viewed over 81,000 times.

Photography

Single covers, shoots and New York hip-hop references.

Supporting the single and video content releases were a number of photo shoots, some of which became single covers. Working with Zara Mutti and Oska Zaky produced a number of images to be associated with Technicolour.

These photoshoots were built around a number of references, most commonly seen in New York hip-hop. Excerpts from the mood boards for these shoots can be seen here.

Conclusions & Outputs

100K+ album streams across all platforms within a month of release.

With recording beginning in January 2023 and concluding in July 2025, Technicolour has existed in some form for 2 1/2 years. Throughout the project, dozens of people helped with its design, conceptualisation, promotion and execution.

Across 8 months, 15 pieces of video content, 4 singles, a 12 track full length project and 6 single/album covers were released publicly as a part of this project. This resulted in 100K+ album streams across all platforms within a month of release. The YouTube video of the full length album currently sits at 63K.

Alongside the release of the initial 12 track mixtape, a further 5 track deluxe edition is planned for March 2026. Technicolour is TSGO's inaugural long term project, bringing together skills in recording and producing music, creative producing, graphic design, social video content and pointed promotion campaigns. Technicolour is available everywhere you listen to music.
